Strong songwriting and an ear for modern appeal helped inspire their pop rock sound. By 1996, the band had quickly progressed, creating a two hour original show, and amassing thousands of Colorado fans. In 1997, A.S. continued to gain momentum, playing at popular venues all over the Rocky Mountain region.
In early 1998, after a few recordings at area studios, Accidental Superhero sought to capture their evolutionary sound in a project that represented the full scope of their musical sensibilities. With this in mind, the band built an independent studio, and began to record their debut album. Nine months later, their first CD Everyman was released.
Later that year, A.S. started a four month tour that took them across the United States where they headlined at the Idaho State Pavilion for an audience of 2,500, and performed at the Whisky A Go-Go and the House of Blues in LA. Their mailing list swelled to 5 figures as they sold thousands of copies of Everyman.
Throughout 1999 and 2000, A.S. continued to release songs independently. Their hit single, "Take My Hand" earned national airplay on top-40 commercial radio. In early 2000, two songs from Everyman were used in the full-length movie trailer and preview for "All The Pretty Horses", now available in the Special Features area of the DVD.
In 2001, with a desire for an edgier style of production, the band set out in a new direction. A.S. redefined their songwriting, and crafted modern-sounding cuts implementing loops and samples. The foursome brought a fresh rawness and intensity to the table - vital to the fulfillment of their new vision. After several months
in the studio creating an original sound based on hip-hop grooves and soaring melodies,
that vision has come to life.
Accidental Superhero is putting the finishing touches on their second album, to be released in early 2003. Pre-release songs are getting rave reviews and an immense number of internet downloads. MP3.com reported over a quarter of a million listens in a period of 3 months in the summer of 2002, putting A.S. at #7 on the Billboard.com download charts, and #2 on the MP3.com Pop and Rock charts. During the same time, the band played numerous sold-out shows, opening for American Hi-Fi, Sammy Hagar, Audiovent, and The Calling.
In August 2002, A.S. toured to New York City to play at the famous CBGB's and the BB King Blues Club, earning a strong review in the NY Post. September and October brought a tidal wave of interviews and magazine reviews, as A.S. headlined shows at the Gothic Theatre in Denver, and the Fox Theatre in Boulder. They made it to the top 10 (out of 1000+ artists) in the in the CMJ/Coca-Cola New Music Award Competition, and maintained the #1 spot (out of 140 Colorado artists) at the Post News Battle of the Bands for 5 straight days, earning fully paid tours to both New York and LA in November.
In 2003, Microsoft is featuring 4 Accidental Superhero songs on the brand new "Project Gotham Racing II" XBOX game, expected to sell 2 million units. A.S. also became a top 3 artist on Buzzplay.net, and was rated in the top 5 unsigned acts on MP3.com. Kweevak.com nominated Full Circle as 2003 "CD of the year".
